Florida Power & Light announced Monday that they will be starting a significant expansion of renewable energy production throughout the next year.
By 2018, FP&L plans to build eight new solar power plants that will boost production with more than 2.5 million solar panels. According to the article located here, each of the planned solar plants will have a capacity of 74.5 megawatts and produce nearly 600 megawatts, which is enough to power nearly 120,000 homes!
Three of the Eight solar power plants have already been completed at Manatee County Solar Energy Center, Citrus Solar Energy Center and Babcock Ranch Solar Energy, all of which began powering FP&L customers on December 31, 2016. The additional facilities will be in Alachua, Putnam and DeSoto counties.
FP&L President/CEO Eric Silagy said that construction at the additional locations is expected to start this spring and could create up to 250 jobs at the peak of construction. FP&L has more than 4.8 million consumer accounts statewide, making them the third-largest customer base in the United States.
